Dota Underlords, Auto Chess and Teamfight Tactics seem a bit the same due to the similar mechanism of the games. Let me explain the mechanism, characters and other details of both the games to show the difference between both the games.
Dota Underlords: It is developed by Valve Corporation. The game contains original characters from Dota 2. But Valve has added some additional characters to the game to make it more interesting. Dota Underlords was released for iOS, Android and PC OS.
Teamfight Tactics: The game is developed by Riot. It contains the features of League of Legends Champions. The game was released for PC users only.
Differences Between Teamfight Tactics & Dota Underlords
Teamfight Tactics uses a hexagonal grid instead of using a square chessboard. The moves in the game are a bit similar to Dota Underlords, but still, the moves and area of effects in both the games are a bit different. We cannot find many similarities in both of them on the basis of “Board Games.” Dota Underlords comes with square chessboard where the moves of the heroes are limited to some extent. They can move to certain cells. The attacking power is also limited to some specific cells.
The units apply the strategies from League of Legends in the TFT. The skills of heroes depend on their MOBA counterparts. It is not the case with Dota Underlords characters. The heroes are called units in it. All the units come with particular characteristic and they have that characteristic independently. They also have their counterparts that are called Alliances. But they are not dependant on them. These alliances only increase their strength.
In Dota Underlords, there are 60 units that are called heroes whereas TFT contains 50 units that are known as champions.
The items work differently in both the games. In TFT, the items play a vital role. When you combine a few specific items, they can be a stronger new item that may be highly useful for the player. When you assign one item to a particular hero in this game, you cannot take off it from him. So, you need to be very careful while assigning an item to a particular hero.
In Dota Underlords, you cannot combine items to make a new one. You can assign these individual items to the heroes to use them for their benefits. However, the item assigning in the game is also very simple. You can assign one item to any hero and you can take off that item from your hero too. That does not make a difference to the efficiency of your hero.
In the TFT, the players get items in neutral rounds only. In Dota Underlords, your players get items in the creep phase. They have the freedom to select their favorite items.
When a player is losing the game, the mechanism of the game offers him a special stage that is known as Draft Stage. This phase of the game allows the player with lower points to get some strength. It is called the comeback mechanism of the game that does not let the losing players out of the game. On the contrary, there is no Draft stage in Dota Underlords.
Alliances & Classes
In Dota Underlords we see that every hero has two alliances. These are basically two attributes of the hero that are considered his two alliances. In Teamfight Tactics, these attributes are called Origins and Classes. The effects of the alliances and origins are different, but the functioning is very similar.
In short, when we play both the games, we find them a bit different. Both the games have some similarities, but overall, the mechanism of both of them is different. We cannot consider them similar games. However, Dota Underlords and Auto Chess can be considered as similar games. In the same way, League of Legends and Dota 2 can also be considered the same games due to their similar principles.
