If you are a newbie in Dota Underlords, it may be difficult for you to understand its mechanism. You do not know how to control the characters, where to position them and how to upgrade them, etc. Well guys, no worries. Here, I am going to explain the strategies of the game to make you well-learned so that you could understand what is Dota Underlords all about?
Position Your Units
The mechanism of the game is very complicated that is not easily understandable. You can use this mechanism to get an upper hand on your opponent teams. First, look at the ground where you are going to position your units. It looks like a Chess field. See how you can position your alliances.
You should place the Tanks in front on the chess board. The damage dealers should be placed in the back. As you know that the tanks absorb the damage and compensate over it. Here, you need to put your damage dealers such as some long-ranged damage dealers Mages or Hunters, etc at back. They can be greatly helpful to take down your enemies from a particular distance. So, don’t bring them in front.
Your units should be very active. It does not mean that they are merely running here and there on the board. It means that the unit should be engaged in fighting in some or other way. Be sure that the units are busy in destroying the tanks, casting spells and in other tasks.
You need to use the most powerful heroes at the beginning of the game. Cast the abilities of your heroes as soon as possible. Some units in the game come with Area of effect and Crowd Control power. So, these units can work in a better way to cast powerful spells. These units include Kunkka, Enigma and Tidehunter, etc. Once, they have cast their abilities, that’s all. Their duty is done.
See the formation of your opponent and form your alliances in reverse way. If your enemy has a bit powerful AoE such as Gyro, you need to divide your units into small groups. Don’t put all the units together. If your enemy has various assassins in the units, don’t put the DPS units in front. Similarly, if your opponent has a strong carry unit, make sure your carry unit fires and takes down at the early level of the game.
You need to maximize the abilities of your heroes. You should at least once cast their abilities to enhance the skills. Once their Mana bars are filled with energy, they can cast skills quickly. So, be ready to position your heroes to get their Mana bar filled easily. Use your brain and help your heroes to get Mana bar filled quickly.
Upgrade Hero Units
When you upgrade your heroes, they become more powerful, more damaging and of course they get a higher health pool. So, your upgraded heroes can be highly beneficial to gain you a high score. To upgrade your hero units, you need to follow a very basic principle of the game. If you want to upgrade your hero, you need to purchase the same character (hero) thrice with the same star level. For example, you want to upgrade Star Clockwerks. See its current position. You possess 2 One-Star Clockwerks. If you buy another One-star Clockwerks, you will possess 3 One-Star Clockwerks. It will automatically upgrade Clockwerks in 1 Two-Star Clockwerk.
If you want to upgrade heroes, you can do it in two ways. You can either show good performance or use real money to buy them. If you have 2-Star heroes in your units, you need 3 pieces of each of them to upgrade them. In the same way, if you have 3-Star heroes in the unit, you require 9 pieces of every hero to upgrade. So, keep a record of the pieces of every hero to be updated with the current situation.
Don’t try to collect 3-Star heroes’ units. It is almost impossible. Try to focus on all 2-Star heroes first. Then try to upgrade them gradually. It will be a bit easier for you rather than accessing all 3-Star heroes in the beginning.

Dota Underlords Game Tutorial
The game is an independent version of Auto Chess. It is a strategy game where your 8 heroes will have a clash against 8 opponents on a chessboard of 8×8.
When the game begins, you need to buy a hero from the Hero shop. A set of 5 heroes will be given to you automatically along with the purchase.
When you click on the name of your hero, you will get details about their qualities. The icons at the bottom will show you their alliance groups. (You can reset the heroes given to you by using the Roll button. But it is not appropriate at early levels)
When you drag a unit to the board in a particular block, you will see a square around him. It shows his attacking range actually.
First four rows are for your units and the remaining four for the opponent team.
A big “x/y” label appears on the screen when you place your units in the blocks. It shows the unit limits how many units are currently present on the board and how many units range you can place there.
For example, if it shows “0/1” in Unit Limit, it means you do not have any unit on the board and the limit is only one unit. You cannot place two or more units on the board. If you place two or more units, you will see your units in the red cell. It shows that it will be removed from the board.
Now the next phase is called the Battle phase. In this phase, your units will fight with the enemy units automatically. You need to select heroes only. You cannot control them directly. Once you have selected them, they will show their characteristics in the Battle phase automatically.
The player that is successful in killing the entire opponent’s units is considered the winner of the round.
Tips to Win the Game
Here are some more tips for you to win the game. Follow them and enjoy the victory.
- Don’t roll at the beginning of the game. Don’t reset the heroes selection against 2 Gold. You can use this option (Rolling) at later levels when you will have sufficient Gold. In the early levels, 2 Gold is considered very precious. So, don’t waste it in Rolling.
- If you sell your One-Star units, there is no loss in it. You will get 100% refund for selling them. This option can be used to fill the reserve space. One-Star heroes do not make a difference on the board. However, the presence of Two-Star heroes can make you win the game easily.
- Don’t run after 3-Star units in the beginning. Focus on 2-Star units only. In the later levels, you can focus on the 3-Star, but currently, you need to try multiple 2-Star units.
- Keep checking the units of your enemy. If he is building some units, be careful of his choices. There is a shared unit pool where every player shares a unit. So, try to get a stronger unit shared in the shared unit pool by your opponent.
- Start the game with Warriors like Tusk, Tiny, Axe, Knight Alliance, Brawny and Juggernaut. All of them are renowned for the best opening. Try to use the warrior units in the beginning.
